Applied Sequence Stratigraphy in Carbonates and Siliciclastic Systems Course
Introduction:
Sequence stratigraphy has emerged as a valuable tool for comprehending and predicting the distribution, geometry, and continuity of reservoir, source, and seal elements. The primary objective of this one-week course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles of sequence stratigraphy and demonstrate its practical application in exploration and production.
The course will encompass the presentation of conceptual models, the development of a workflow for analyzing core, log, and seismic data, and an exploration of how these data can be integrated into a sequence stratigraphic framework.
Key examples will be utilized to showcase how sequence stratigraphy can facilitate reservoir subdivision, constrain reservoir models, and generate high-resolution predictions of reservoir systems that are geologically well-constrained. Through exercises, participants will have the opportunity to reinforce and expand upon these concepts. The course will encompass discussions on concepts and applications, and practical hands-on examples from both carbonate and siliciclastic systems.
Course Objectives:
- LEARN fundamental sequence stratigraphic concepts in carbonate &siliciclastic systems
- APPRECIATE the value of siliciclastic and carbonate sequence stratigraphy
- IDENTIFY sequence stratigraphic elements in the core, log, and seismic data
- UNDERSTAND the sequence stratigraphic workflow for reservoir characterization and prediction
- INTEGRATE geological and geophysical data through the use of sequence stratigraphic analysis
