Fire Alarm and Detection Systems Course
Introduction:
The course offers a comprehensive overview of the key components comprising a fire alarm system. A crucial aspect of a fire detection and alarm system is its ability to promptly detect a developing fire emergency and notify both the building's occupants and fire emergency organizations. Depending on factors such as the anticipated fire scenario, building type, occupancy, contents, and criticality, these systems serve various primary functions.
Firstly, they provide a means to detect a fire in its early stages, either through manual or automatic methods. Secondly, they alert building occupants about the presence of a fire and the need to evacuate. The system can be designed to simultaneously notify the fire department or other emergency response organizations through direct or relayed alarm signals. In addition to the alarm function, fire alarm and detection systems can also activate other fire safety measures within a building.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the main types of smoke detectors and their working principle
- Understand the working principle of the different types of heat detectors
- Describe the function of the VESDA system
- Know the typical loop architecture of smoke/ heat detectors
- Describe different types of fire detectors and their principle of operation
